Alyssa May is a 20 year old singer/songwriter from a town outside Houston, Texas. She is a part of the Nashville Songwriter's Association International (NSAI). Of course I first heard of Alyssa from Twitter, where she has 13.5 thousand followers. When I first listened to her voice it's unique, but reminds me of a softer version of Kelsea Ballerini, so in my opinion she has a really great voice. I started looking around her YouTube channel and saw where she covered one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs, "All You Had To Do Was Stay". Obviously being a country artist is different than being a pop artist, so her version is slower, more down-to-earth, than Taylor's. So when the song was over I was like 'I am a fan of this girl now!' She took this song by one of the best (now) pop artists and made it into her own with just her, a guitar, and not much backup vocals, and made me a fan. I'm sure a lot of people saw that and became a fan! So other than covering songs, I mentioned she is a songwriter. She writes very good songs, they sound like they come from personal experiences, which is a message you always want to send in country music. She has a new song called "So Done" coming out TOMORROW (August 20th), which I listened to and loved it. With that song I say you go girl, been there done that! Y'all are going to have to go listen to this song (link at the bottom) because it screams GIRL POWER, which leads to country radio needed more women on the radio! A record label needs to pick this girl up (hello Big Machine, somebody) because she has the qualities country music needs, and what girls need to hear! At least I for one think so! I write songs of what I go through as well, so women who write songs about their own life should have a voice for all of us girls and be heard! So go listen to Alyssa May's songs, go follow her on social media, she is very talented, and will love her voice if you haven't heard it already! To start, as you all know I have written a blog about this artist before. It may see a little bias, but when you see someone career start booming right in front of your eyes, how can you not be proud and want to show them off? I know, I know, I do not know him personally but that won’t stop me from being this proud of someone. Let me give you a short recap of Michael’s career so far, he released his “Kiss You in the Morning” EP April 28th, 2015. Not even four days after that he came to a great town called Chattanooga (shoutout!) for a free concert brought to you by US101. Obviously they announced this a month or two before the concert, so even more obviously it made me that much more excited to attend (details in my May section on my blog). Anyways, after that concert I became a bigger fan than I already was, shocking right, no I love seeing new artists and hearing them live. After that concert I’ve seen out-pouring support for Michael and his band, which is really something to see. Fast-forward three months later to August 7, 2015, Michael now has released a self-titled album with 12 amazing songs! Naturally seeing him in concert, and on the EP, I knew a couple songs already. I’m going to name a couple of my favorites, which is hard, but as I said I knew some of these…. Obviously “Kiss You in The Morning” is absolutely one of the best songs ever, I really like “Look Like This”, “Real Men Love Jesus”, “Livin’ It Up”, “Run Away With You”, and yeah this is too hard. I love all of Michael Ray’s songs! So I’ll just talk about a couple of different ones. Let’s start talking out this song right here called, “Real Men Love Jesus”. This song talks about real life with guys. How they love women, cars, football, beer, and how they live on the edge. So in the morning “they’re gonna need forgiven”, but then the song goes on to talk about how much the love their mama, working hard, being what every country girl wants, and loving Jesus. It’s a song about men can do this, this, and this, but at the end of the day they’re someone who puts their all into something, has faith, and won’t give up and leave. “Livin’ It Up” I love this song, if thought this would be an upbeat party, jam song then you were right! This song talks about not letting “the good times pass you by”, so the song talks about life being a blast, and that you need to get kind of crazy sometimes, burn things down (not literally) but to get off your maybe rut life and do something fun! It means let your hair down and get a little crazy with your friends, be the life of the party, stop focusing so much on work and take some time for yourself! “Run Away With You” Don’t get me started on how much I love this song! This song is about two lovers who have drifted apart in their relationship. How much he wants them to be together and have that connection with her again, get that spark back in their eyes. So the chorus starts, he says he wants to run away with her, live wide open, no matter where they’re at, that he wants to fall in love with her all over again! He thinks this crazy life is getting the best of them that they’re “barely hanging on” because they’re always in a rush, and worrying about other things besides the relationship. He just want to have that love again, make love with her, and have them focus more on the relationship. “Wish I Was Here” this song is about a guy literally not caring where he’s at, just as long as he is with his girl. It seems to be he’s out of town (touring?) with his job and misses his girlfriend. The chorus goes, “Blue eyes all mine in my t-shirt, Sleepy head on my chest saying three words. Girl my greener grass is anywhere you're at. By the time I hit the tracks on the edge of town, I’m shifting gears, hitting brakes, turning back around. I could kick up some dust on the road anywhere, but then again I’d just wish I was here.” Which is probably some of the sweetest lyrics I’ve ever heard! I don’t think I can do this song justice by talking about it so just go listen and buy the cd! “Driving All Night” this starts off with a boy meeting a girl in Panama City on spring break, where he lives, and she lives in LSU. Eventually he falls for her and it doesn’t take much to convince him to go visit her no matter how far away. This is so cute guys, he sings about what he has to do to be with her, and then he says that she isn’t ever too out of his way to go see her! All she was to do is dial him up no matter what and he’ll be their! Pretty much every girls dream. “Somewhere South” now I know I can’t do this song justice by just writing about it. This song is person to be because I do relate to this song the most. In the song he first starts thinking about everything in his hometown while he’s away, and then he thinks I need to get out of here and catch a plane. That’s when the chorus comes in, “Somewhere south. Where when they open that smile, they smile, that long, slow drawl falls out. Where I can be me getting lost in a sea of a down home crowd. Oh, I gotta get back down, somewhere south” He thinks about “stubborn pride”, “fighting over Fords and Chevy’s”, football teams, and he thinks about the bible belt, how it’s hard to walk the line, but yet keeps his faith close to his heart. I just adore this song! Guys I don’t know what else to say except this guy, is an amazing singer. He has one of the best personalities I’ve seen in a while! His self-titled, Michael Ray, cd is full of relatable, amazing, down-to-Earth, songs! Even if you skipped my review of some of the songs, I know for a fact you’ll love them. I could go on and on about him, but I would love to know what y’all think about him! Comment your thoughts on Michael, his band, music, etc. I hope he sees his blog, and actually likes it! I don’t know what else to say other than go buy his cd, go see him live, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to meet him and make me jealous… yet happy for you! Follow him on the Twitter @MichaelRayMusic and Instagram! Like his Facebook page, Michael Ray! Snapchat: MichaelRayMusic To start off with I would just like to say how proud I am of the artist on this week’s blog post. Meghan Linsey, if this name sounds familiar it may be because she has one of the best voices ever! Maybe you saw her on CMT's (which is no longer on TV) "Can You Duet" or maybe you saw her on this seasons "The Voice". Before I get into Meg's new amazing music I want to talk about her career. As I stated before Meghan was on a CMT show called "Can You Duet", Meghan and her then fiance, Joshua Scott Jones, were a duo called Steel Magnolia. They won season two (2009) of the show and their single "Keep On Lovin' You" (Still one of my favorites!!!) made it to the top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart! They even put an album out in 2011, self-titled, which is also ah-mazing! Then in 2013 something that shocked country music happened, Steel Magnolia was no more. I couldn't believe it, but they had personal things going on in their lives, which is so understandable… some people don't think artists have personal lives, but they do. Now here comes the dark ages, well at least for 2 years, nobody knew what was going to happen with these two! Would they get back together? Will they each get new music out soon? Well Meghan released covers of different artists, but in 2015 something happened. Meghan Linsey tried out for one of the most watched shows, "The Voice"! She first tried out and had everyone turn around BUT Blake Shelton (people are still confused on this) but she ended up on team Pharrell (Williams) then was finally where she belonged when Blake stole her during the battle rounds. Each week Meghan showed America why she deserved a second change, how strong she is, and why she needed a change. To fast forward Meg came runner up to winner Sawyer Fredericks. Obviously to country music nation, including me, Meg was the real winner! (btw I liked Sawyer, congrats to him, but Meghan was my favorite) Anyways, months later Meghan has an amazing EP called "Believer". This chick is awesome because she went from country music to pretty much soul/pop music and it's still so real. I feel like with this new music she's speaking through her heart and soul, about a lot of different things and people. You relate to her in so many ways, I mean this EP has 5 1/2 stars, FIVE AND A HALF. That's so amazing! I'm so proud of this girl, never giving up on her dream despite all the hard times and haters... if you haven't, check out Meghan Lindsey and her new EP, "Believer"!
