Old Dominion includes lead singer Matthew Ramsey, multi-instrumentalist Trevor Rosen, bassist Geoff Sprung, drummer Whit Sellers, and lead guitarist Brad Tursi. Before becoming country music’s newest, and rising band, they were song-writers. Not only do they write for themselves, but they've written for artists such as Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, and The Band Perry. Old Dominion is a mixture of classic country, with a nice beat behind them, lead singer Matthew Ramsey, and has this mellow voice with great instruments backing him up. There newest single "Break up with Him" cracked the top 40 on the iTunes country music chart, and is being played more and more on country radio. On their website "olddominionband.com" Brad Tursi says "Break up with Him" was “evolved from a loose pre-show jam session into the earworm of a single it is today." That “The groove was the first thing that happened,” [that] “We started singing some little melody. And then I think Matt and Trevor worked on it in the van another day.” Their self-titled EP ranks 5 stars on iTunes, and I could not agree more with the rating! They've got this new country feel, with a feel good sound, and similar hip-hop feel like artists such as Sam Hunt are doing! Old Dominion is one of those bands who will turn your day around with good vibes from their EP! OD is also going to be at the CMA Music Festival Kick-Off Concert at the Chevrolet Riverfront Stage! Which is s big step for these guys and their career, it's such a great opportunity! I really love these guys, and hope they'll come near my town soon because I'll be ready to go with my boots on! We first saw Lauren Alaina audition on American Idol, season 10, singing "Like We Never Loved At All" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. She was so great she actually made Jennifer Lopez cry! They said she has a God given talent, and she does! Lauren made the top 2 on American Idol, finishing runner-up to Scotty. She released her first single, "Like My Mother Does" in 2011 then released her debut album "Wildflower" with hit songs such as "Georgia Peaches", "Eighteen Inches", and "Like My Mother Does." Lauren Alaina is from Rossville, Georgia, but most people know her from where I live. On American Idol most people who lived in Tennessee, Alabama, and of course Georgia voted non-stop for this country artist. Lauren's songs are heartfelt and bubbly, they sound like her personality whether she's singing about love, stupid boys, her mother, or the way she lives. Her voice is one of the best in country music, in my opinion. She released her first single since her album "Wildflower" in 2013 called "Barefoot and Buckwild" which is a very upbeat song about a guy and girl getting out of town, and riding around like rebels getting lost throughout the back roads in the country. The girl falls even harder every time this boy calls and wants to take a drive in his truck and get a little crazy, making her want to get barefoot and buckwild! Hopefully they'll be new a new album in store soon from Lauren, because her vocals, to me, are almost like a Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert sound! She also tweeted she was practicing for a tour and that she's listening to mixes of music so hopefully that means a new single is in the works! She has a really powerful voice and she has great songs on her album "Wildflower"! I really believe we need more female power on the radios these days and Lauren has that power to make you shut up and listen to what she's singing about. We need someone like her on the radio for all of us girls who don't have a voice, and need someone to "talk" for us!
Follow Lauren on Twitter: @Lauren_Alaina Facebook: Lauren Alaina Instagram: LaurenAlaina The first time I heard these lyrics, "But it could buy me a boat, it could buy me a truck to pull it. It could buy me a Yeti 110 iced down with some Silver Bullets" I immediately turned the radio up. I thought, "Man... this song is every country boys dream! Yet at the same time I want the same thing." This single spent one week at number 33 on the Hot Country Songs after being played on the Bobby Bones Show, while it was self-released. It was officially released as a single with Warner Bros. Records Nashville this May (2015). Janson began his songwriting career at the age of 19 with "Guns N' Roses" to Dean Dillon. In 2009 he singed with BNA Records, he released his debut single. "Til a Woman Comes Along", in 2010. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs for, a week. He left BNA and started co-writing for artists like Tim McGraw, Lee Brice, Justin Moore, Randy Houser, Parmalee, and many more artists. He then singed with Bigger Picture Music Group working alongside Keith Stegall. Chris Janson has an upcoming album in the works with songs he has written himself. He writes about real-life experiences, like many artists are doing today. When he sings you can hear that redneck, blue-collar, style, but it seems so effortless. It really works for him, especially since his first official single is "Buy Me A Boat" and he's written for Justin Moore, Randy Houser, and Lee Brice. for examples. SO if you're looking for a fresh sound to country music Chris Janson is the guy you should check out! Before I get started with this blog let me just say that I was SO SO excited about concert, and it was alllll I could talk about for like a month. So my excitement may take over my writing..
The day finally came, Michael Ray was coming to Chattanooga (Rhythm & Brews), I couldn't decide on what to wear either (yeah, that''s personal but oh well it's my blog) anyways when we were on route to the concert and "Kiss You In The Morning" came on US101! We started to jam out, and I thought it was a positive sign that we were in for a good time! We got there early and had to wait until doors opened, when doors finally opened we went in and saw his merch booth, so of course I wanted a shirt! We went up there and talked to his merch guy Chris, who is really cool by the way, and got us a Michael Ray shirt! When the moment came for Michael to come out we got up and went almost the very front of the small stage, he started jamming instantly. He took selfies with some LUCKY people in the front row (yeah, I'm still jealous). We got a chance to hear some music that he was working on for his first album, and they were awesome, he played upbeat party songs, and he had a slow song or two. No matter what he played I loved! He sang covers such as "Dust On The Bottle" by David Lee Murphy, "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash, "Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks, and those are three of my favorite songs ever! He sang songs that's on his website, and of course "Kiss You In The Morning"! He also rapped a little for us with "Dirt Road Anthem" written by Brantley Glibert, sung by Brantley and Jason Aldean! Michael is really good at rapping y'all, he's probably the only rapper I'd listen to on a daily basis. Oh and his band is THE best!! His guitar player, Lucas Chamberlain, is not only a great guitar player, but he sends out great vibes from up on stage, and he's not bad to look at... just saying. His other band members Jonathan Sepulveda, Andrew Beselica, Matthew Ray Gatch whom I saw were absolutely amazing! Bass player, Jonathan Sepulveda, interacted with the crowd and was really fun up on stage, and the rest of his guys were awesome as well! You can't say enough nice things about these guys, their energy up on stage, and the heart they put into a performance, you just can't explain! If you missed this show, you missed out! Michael Ray is someone you should 100% see! (I'm still kinda hurting because we had to leave before he did a meet and greet, so I'm sure his interactions on stage is also as good as his interactions off stage with his fans! I would've loved to meet the rest of the band as well.. maybe next time!) So go see Michael Ray y'all, check out his music! Give him a follow on Twitter and Instagram: @michaelraymusic like him on Facebook too, and go follow is band-mates and merch guy! OH and get his EP CD at Walmart! Thanks Michael for coming to Chattanooga, come back soon! Also shout-out to US101 for making this happen! |
