Alyssa May is a 20 year old singer/songwriter from a town outside Houston, Texas. She is a part of the Nashville Songwriter's Association International (NSAI). Of course I first heard of Alyssa from Twitter, where she has 13.5 thousand followers. When I first listened to her voice it's unique, but reminds me of a softer version of Kelsea Ballerini, so in my opinion she has a really great voice. I started looking around her YouTube channel and saw where she covered one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs, "All You Had To Do Was Stay". Obviously being a country artist is different than being a pop artist, so her version is slower, more down-to-earth, than Taylor's. So when the song was over I was like 'I am a fan of this girl now!' She took this song by one of the best (now) pop artists and made it into her own with just her, a guitar, and not much backup vocals, and made me a fan. I'm sure a lot of people saw that and became a fan! So other than covering songs, I mentioned she is a songwriter. She writes very good songs, they sound like they come from personal experiences, which is a message you always want to send in country music. She has a new song called "So Done" coming out TOMORROW (August 20th), which I listened to and loved it. With that song I say you go girl, been there done that! Y'all are going to have to go listen to this song (link at the bottom) because it screams GIRL POWER, which leads to country radio needed more women on the radio! A record label needs to pick this girl up (hello Big Machine, somebody) because she has the qualities country music needs, and what girls need to hear! At least I for one think so! I write songs of what I go through as well, so women who write songs about their own life should have a voice for all of us girls and be heard! So go listen to Alyssa May's songs, go follow her on social media, she is very talented, and will love her voice if you haven't heard it already!
